October is Careers In Student Affairs Month

Careers in Student Affairs (CSAM) is a month-long initiative, each October. CSAM is dedicated to the celebration of a career in student affairs, education and awareness in the profession, and engagement with professional associations and peers in the field. Across various professional and indepedent associations you will come across a myraid of ways to engage, explore, reflect and rejuvenate especially if your enrollment management position sits under the umbrella of Student Affairs at your institutions.

Inspired by this article, entitled "16 Rewarding Ways You Can Celebrate Careers in Student Affairs Month Virtually" we are sharing our eight ways that you can celebrate this month within your institution, department and self.

Share.

Encourage your department to share their personal student affairs stories at the next staff meeting. You can also share via blogs, social media posts, or simply by talking to friends and family members.

Volunteer.

CAPACRAO is operated by volunteers. Join one of our committees or join our Executive Board as our Vice President for Membership & Technology. Email [email protected] for more information.

Learn.

Attend or host a webinar on your passion area within student affairs.
Need ideas? View the CAPACRAO October Calendar. Also, check out NASPA and ACPA.

Explore.

Take the time to learn about other functional areas in student affairs outside of your own by talking with colleagues or hosting an informational interview over lunch.

Involvement.

Renew your professional association memberships.
Inquire through your leadership about your institutional memberships and ways to get involved with CAPACRAO, AACRAO, NACEP, NASPA, ACPA, NODA, NACADA, etc. There are also state and regional associations and affinity groups you can engage with.

Social.

Interact with student affairs social media groups or CSAM account takeovers. Search #CSAM21 via LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Recognize.

Nominate a stellar colleague for a state, regional or national award.
CAPACRAO Awards are open. Submit your nomination TODAY.

Communicate.

Encourage your institution to highlight student affairs professionals on your campus through marketing and social media accounts.
