Name: Nanci Beier
Role: Registrar
Institution: Anne Arundel Community College

What do you do at Anne Arundel Community College?

I am the Registrar at Anne Arundel Community College but I actually consider myself a jack of all trades.  At Anne Arundel Community College, the Registrar’s Office encompasses everything from registration to graduation; course/section/degree audit, residency, transfer credit, room scheduling, enrollment management, even athletic eligibility!

What are your credentials/experience, for working in your position?

The most valuable experience I received, and what I attribute to my effectiveness in higher education, is my very first position working the front counter as a registration assistant at Prince Georges Community College over 25 years ago.  That experience, the support I received and the lessons I learned, all laid the foundation for my continued service to students and the community and subsequent successes I have achieved as a leader in higher education.

What’s your Archetype?

I have a Caregiver archetype.

What do you like about working at Anne Arundel Community College?

I enjoy the people I work with and relationships I have formed.  I also like the fact that every day is different and I never know what may come up.  Working at a community college also affords me the opportunity to work with all types of students.

What are the values that drive you?

In my position I always strive to remain open-minded especially when working with students and their problems.  While something may seem trivial to me, to that student, that issue might be the most important thing going on in their lives.  I always try to put myself in the student’s shoes.  Another important value that I bring to my position as a supervisor/manager of a large office is that I would never ask something of my staff that I would not be willing and able to do myself.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my 4 sons and grandson.  They keep me very busy and entertained!

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I often think that I would love to work at a Doggie Day Care and play with the animals all day.
